Sneak Peek

A photography marketing strategy

Sneak Peeks or shall we say Teasers are arguably one of the most rewarding, albeit risky, marketing strategies for wedding photographers. There are a lot of pros and cons to consider, but if there’s one thing I’m sure of… THIS.IS.A.GAME.CHANGER (if you do it right of course).

The principle of a sneak peek, has been used and abused to its full capacity by almost all businesses out there. This holds true to the music industry, movie industry, and of course the photography industry as well.

Teasers drives potential sales, creates traffic (not on the streets I hope ha!) and attracts the audience by capitalizing on the basic fact that HUMANS ARE CURIOUS by nature.

Now think about applying this strategy to your business. I’ve already talked about how to do a next day sneak peek on my blog:

6 Simple Marketing Strategies That Will Double Your Wedding Bookings

So, for today, I want to dive deeper to the Pros and Cons of doing a sneak peek. Like all things in life, there’s always two sides to a story (or shall we say strategy) that we have to consider.

Let’s start off with the con as I want to get this one out into the open first.

Like Wine, All Good Things Take Time ~

This is not really a con per se but I just wanted to put it here because this is something you also have to consider when doing a sneak peek. Some clients (and I do mean some!) think that the amount of time you put into something is directly proportional to the significant value of that thing. That means FAST PRODUCTION TIME = LESS QUALITY (and vice versa). But I personally don’t agree with this notion. I think that no matter how fast or slow you come up with a sneak peek, the photo will always speak for itself.

That said, now let’s move onto the pros. In my opinion, there are more positive outcomes to doing sneak peeks than there are bad ones. Here are some:

You’ve got the goods? Show ‘em! ~

Obviously, posting a sneak peek is not only for your clients but for you to benefit as well. Like I said earlier, doing sneak peeks creates hype or excitement that attracts potential clients. It’s also a good way to promote your work just like how online galleries work. So, remember the next time you post a sneak peek, make sure that it speaks about you, your skills, and your style.

A bang for their buck ~

Every client wants to be assured that they are getting their money’s worth. Aside from giving your clients a taste of what’s to come, you are also reassuring them that their photos will turn out fine if the sneak peek is this good. This creates a positive client experience (which means more referrals for you!).

Always. Stay. Relevant. ~

This is quite similar to the first pros I discussed, but what I want to give emphasis on is the exposure you get by making this one of your full-time marketing strategies. This will help you stay relevant in the long run. Maximize all social platforms by posting different sneak peek of different clients. Doing this allows you to exhibit your different photography styles. Not all shoots are the same. New skills and tricks are learned every time. The more varied sneak peeks you post means more content, and content creates traffic.

Note: Don’t underestimate the power of tagging! Encourage your clients to tag you or
your business when they post your work.

If you do this right, sneak peeks could up your game and your sales too!

So go ahead grab a glass of wine, sit down, and mull over the things we’ve discussed.
