049: ImagenAI – How Automated Editing Is Going To Change Your Business Forever

January 10, 2022

“Don’t be scared to give away a little control when it comes to your editing – in return, you’ll actually get more control + more time!”

YOTAM – FOUNDER OF IMAGENAI

Hey everyone! It’s Sally here, from Studio Ninja. Today’s episode is all about ImagenAI!

Yotam is the co-founder and CEO of ImagenAI and based in Israel. Before ImagenAI, Yotam worked in the field of semiconductors. When he first heard about AI a couple of years ago, it fascinated him so much that he went back to university to study it. He has grown passionate about finding ways to help photographers through AI solutions and is always thinking about how ImagenAI can do more to give them back more time and help them achieve stunning results.

Check out some of the biggest points from ImagenAI’s interview below:

  • An introduction to ImagenAI
  • What is Intelligent Photo Editing and why do photographers need this software?
  • What are your top tips for using ImagenAI efficiently and effectively?

  • What is the difference between Creator and Talent Profiles?
  • What does the future look like for ImagenAI?

Let’s delve in a little deeper, what does ImagenAI do?

Yotam:
Yoav is one of our other co-founders and when we started speaking to his wedding photographer, we realized a couple of things. First, that it’s really important for a photographer to actually maintain their editing style. They wouldn’t want an automatic tool that edits everything without their own personal touch. His photographer was actually trying to teach an external editor how to edit like him but he was never satisfied with the results. So he ended up still having to edit all the photos anyway. And we have learnt that it takes about 14 hours on average for a wedding photographer to edit a full wedding.

When we just started, it was important for us first to keep the editing personal, so it wouldn’t be one way to edit for everyone. We also realized it was really important for the photographer to be able to maintain control over the editing. So you wouldn’t just give the photos in its final state, you have to set it inside the editing software and make sure that the final touch and the final tweaks can always be done and everything is reversible. And the last thing is that we want to keep following the way a photographer changes their style over time, making sure that the software continues to reflect their editing style.

So with these three insights, we went along and we developed something that can understand the way you edit your photos and it’ll actually integrate into your editing software. We support Lightroom today, but we will support other editing software brands as we go.

You can also fine-tune your profile. So once you have finished editing your photos, you can then send the edits back to us. And with time, your profile will be more accurate and your AI profile will evolve with your editing style.

Why do you think that photographers need to be looking into ImagenAI, if they aren’t already?

Zoe:
Editing can be a real pain point. At the start, when you are building up your style, that’s the really enjoyable part and most photographers do actually want to build up their own unique style. But once you’ve got to that place, where you can say “okay, this is my unique style and I love it” most photographers wish that their style can then be overlaid easily and quickly onto their photos. When it comes to editing in bulk especially, many photographers wish that their unique editing base was just done already.

With presets – that’s just one set of editing parameters that won’t work for every environment. When it comes to editing a wedding, you will see a whole range of different lighting conditions and environments. If you then overlay one preset across the whole wedding, you are going to end up tweaking every photo. You will spend hours just tweaking the white balance and the exposure. So ImagenAI really is a revolutionary product, because it is learning based on the types of environments and lighting conditions as well. Your AI profile will then understand if the exposure or white balance needs changing and it’s going to help you do that within seconds. That just saves so much time and editing headaches.

Yotam:
Yeah. I totally agree. If you do have the right amount of photos needed to create your profile, you can just start with that. You just need to choose 5,000 edited photos with your consistent style. We then extract that into what we call a profile which you can then use with new photos in Lightroom. If you don’t have the 5,000 photos right away or you would like to use an already-made AI profile, you can start with one of our Talent profiles. You can then use that as you start collecting the catalogs to create your own profile and with time your profile will be more accurate and closer to your actual final edit.

What are your top tips to using ImagenAI to it’s full potential?

Yotam:
Firstly, it’s very important to choose consistently edited photos when building your profile. Also make sure to send your final edits via the fine-tune option so we keep improving your profile. I want to say a disclaimer about the fine-tune option because many users were confused about that. The profile will not get better or change on each final edit you send through. After we have a couple of thousands of new edits, only then will the profile be updated with the new settings. So don’t expect it to happen every time.

If you have a few different editing styles, for example – your winter weddings edit looks totally different to your summer weddings, it is better to create a new profile for that. You can always consult with us about whether you should have another profile or whether you should just keep sending your final edit and wait for the improvement. We try to be very accessible and answer quickly. Just email us at support@imagenai.com
